OH NO: Marina and the Diamonds
This is our video from the Preliminary Task. We choose an Marina and the Diamonds "Oh No" as its a fun upbeat song, the idea behind the song is wanting a change, so we mirrored this with changes in location through out the song.
What went well?

The multiscreens we used with the text. |
I really like the concept behind our idea. The changing locations is different and fits the song, I also think its really easy to keep watching something that is obviously important in a music video. The filming of the music video went pretty smoothly as-well, benefiting from our knowledge of production from our Foundation Production, we also planned all the costumes and locations in lesson time, so when we went out to film the music video we could do it all very swiftly in the few hours that we had.The editing also was fairly straight forward as we had an idea of what we wanted. Some shots that we had wanted in the video where left out however, due to errors in the footage, like the camera shaking, or not enough footage of her singing a particular bit. Also as we had a limited amount of time which meant we had to compromise some of our locations. That being said I feel that the editing came together in the end. We were asked to use some different techniques in the video, we decided to show multiscreen and colorization. I really like the multi-screen effect that we used at the end, I think it works really well especially with the bright colors used, the editing of that bit was also well done in my opinion as each screen comes on separately. I also think my idea of the name of the song is a good addition as I feel that it makes the song fit the brief, as it was meant to be a promo video for the song .
Even better if.

The change in color between in shots. | |
Despite being happy with our product in most areas, there are a few points that I would correct if this was our final product. Firstly the first clip hasn't had its sound removed so you can hear Abbie singin
g, this wasn't something that was picked up in editing annoyingly, but it has taught me to look back at the footage and check it really thoroughly before you export it. This is definitely something we will be doing in our final media project. Another issue that could be better is the colorization, in some shots the colour has changed dramatically, to correct this we would either colorize all the clips before cutting them, or make sure the numbers are the same on the effects toolbox in Adobe. On reflection Abbie's outfit could have been more vivid, to make her stand out a bit more, and make our video more upbeat.
and we didn't have enough footage in the end. To make sure this doesn't happen again I would film longer shots.

An example of people walking in our shots. |
In editing I think we could have cut a little more on the beat, we did a quick cut for one part but we could have incorporated this in other areas. Other area that could have been better is the locations, I feel they could have been a little more interesting and colorful, the park and the phone boxes worked, but I felt the river was a little dull. Our initial idea had also been to have a close up of her feet at the beginning with no sound and then to pan upwards to her, to make it more of a narrative, however this didn't work out because people kept walking past our shot
